本品为乙二胺、二亚乙基三胺、三亚乙基四胺、多亚乙基多胺的联产品，生产原理与操作参见乙二胺。但氨解反应的温度需160～250℃，压力应4.0MPa以上。将多胺粗品减压蒸馏，收集1.3kPa压力下，160～210℃的馏分，冷却后即得四乙基五胺的成品。

精制方法：用金属钠或无水硫酸钙脱水后减压分馏。也可以将150g四亚乙基五胺溶解于300mL95%的乙醇中，冷却下逐渐滴入180mL浓盐酸，温度保持在20℃以下。滤出白色沉淀，用乙醇和水的混合液重结晶3次，乙醚洗涤，真空干燥即得纯净的四亚乙基五胺盐酸盐。
