【用途一】
用作助熔剂，还用于玻璃、搪瓷、制造硼化合物原料及彩色电视机工业用作半导体硅的掺杂源和硅酸盐分解时的助熔剂，还可用于硼的制造

用于制取元素硼和精细硼化合物，制造硼玻璃、光学玻璃、耐热玻璃及玻璃纤维等，还用作油漆阻燃剂和干燥剂
【用途三】

三氧化二硼制备

1.常压法将硼酸送人加热釜内，升温，硼酸徐徐脱水。当温度升到107.5℃时变为偏硼酸(HBO2)，升温到150～160℃时转变为四硼酸(H2B4O7)，650℃以上则熔体产生大量泡沫，最终将温度保持在800～1000℃，灼烧脱水到物料呈红色并不再鼓泡为止。熔料相对密度为1.52。这时开启抽丝机进行抽丝，温度控制在700～900℃。然后将抽丝机上的氧化硼丝用退切机切断，包装，得氧化硼成品。其反应方程式如下：

2.真空法将硼酸置于不锈钢盘中，放人烘箱内先烘1.5 h，再升温至150℃，加热4 h。加热过程中要经常翻动，使其脱水均匀。接着将物料移出，冷却，粉碎，然后置于真空烘箱中，保持密封，在220℃下加热1.5 h，再升温至260℃，并加热4 h。再将物料冷却、粉碎，放入管式炉中，加热温度控制在280℃，在真空下脱水4h，制得氧化硼产品。其反应方程式如下：
3.将晶状的硼酸装在一只小皿中。放在装有五氧化二磷的干燥反应器中并在真空下加热至200℃使之完全脱水。水真空泵提供的真空度已够用了，但最好采用较高真空度的真空泵。重要的是温度要慢慢地升高到200℃，否则硼酸会熔结起来而妨碍水汽的进一步逸散。所用的量越大，在200℃下加热的时间应越长，有时保温达4h以上，脱水才能完全。对于3g硼酸，加热1h就够了。另外，在温度保持不超过200℃的条件下，可以在干燥空气流中进行硼酸的脱水。所用干燥空气是将空气通过硫酸，然后再通过五氧化二磷或多孔性氧化钡进行干燥而得。
