1.吲哚经缩合生成夹拉明（3-二甲氨甲基吲哚），进一步缩合生成α-羧酸乙酯-β（3-吲哚）-N-乙酰基-α-丙氨酸乙酯，经水解、脱羧、再水解生成DL-色氨酸。

2.以吲哚为原料，在酶催化下，于高浓度丙酮酸和氨气氛中制得色氨酸。或者由吲哚和乙酰氨基丙二酸乙二酯制得。
