【用途一】
广谱性杀虫剂，通过触杀、胃毒和熏蒸均有效
【用途二】
广谱性有机磷杀虫剂，具有触杀、胃毒和熏蒸作用，无内吸作用。用于防治贮藏谷物中的害虫和各种叶类作物上的害虫，也可用于防治蚊、蝇等卫生害虫，在土壤中无持效性。如药剂用于原粮贮藏时，可有效防治玉米象、杂拟谷盗、锯谷盗、赤拟谷盗等。施药量为1000kg稻谷喷1000mL（有效浓度10～20mg/kg)的药液（或撒1kg拌药的砻糠）。采用边倒粮食边喷（撒）药的方法。对谷蠹和螨类、书虱的防治效果不理想。

甲基毒死蜱制备

1. 五氯吡啶的合成吡啶催化氯化得到五氯吡啶。2.2,3,5,6-四氯吡啶的合成五氯吡啶与锌粉和氯化铵反应得四氯吡啶。3.3,5,6-三氯-2-吡啶醇的合成四氯吡啶和KOH反应得3,5,6-三氯-2-吡啶醇。4.甲基毒死蜱的合成 3,5,6-三氯-2-吡啶醇，与O,O-二甲基硫化磷酰氯，反应得甲基毒死蜱。

2. 五氯吡啶的制备将4～6目活性炭60mL浸渍于内含1.5g氯化钴的150mL水溶液中，加热蒸水至干，得催化剂。然后将催化剂用氯气预处理，在镍制反应管内，升温至330℃，将汽化的吡啶、氯气和氮气充分混合，送入催化剂层进行反应而得五氯吡啶，纯度99.5%。
2,3,5,6-四氯吡啶的制备将199g乙腈、35g五氯吡啶，加热回流，完全溶解。再加入锌粉9.6g，并将由15g氯化铵和40mL水配成的溶液，缓慢地滴加至上述混合物中，反应适当时间后，补加稀盐酸，于77～78℃下蒸馏得四氯吡啶。
3，5，6-三氯-2-吡啶醇的制备将217g四氯吡啶、868g水、128gKOH混合物于95～100℃搅拌反应，趁热过滤，使滤液温度为85℃，向滤液中加浓硫酸，使pH值达3.5，冷却至50℃，热水洗涤滤饼、烘干。

O，O-二甲基硫代磷酰氯的制备参见杀螟硫磷的制备方法。
甲基毒死蜱的合成投入3，5，6-三氯-2-吡啶醇、氢氧化钠和水，加热使固体物完全消失，降温后再分别加入氯化钠、氢氧化钠、硼酸、苄基三乙基氯化铵、1-甲基咪唑和二氯甲烷，在室温搅拌，滴加O，O-二甲基硫代磷酰氯，滴毕，升温回流1～1.5h，冷却，静置分层、水洗、减压脱溶制得。
