Bicuculline methiodide attenuates inflammation by inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and by increasing the production of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10, both of which play important roles in the pathogenesis of sepsis.
