由氯化苄与一甲胺在苯溶剂中反应而得。将一甲胺和苯加入反应锅，于25℃滴加氯化苄，约5-6h加完，升温至45℃反应4h。加入氢氧化钠，再保温1h。静置分层，苯层常压蒸馏至140℃后，再减压蒸馏，收集75-130℃（2.0-6.67kPa），馏分即为苄基甲胺。
