医药工业用于制取维生素B6、咔啡因、医用粘合剂等，也用于农药霜脲氰的合成
【用途二】
氰基乙酸是杀菌剂稻瘟灵、霜脲氰的中间体，并是医药咖啡因的中间体。
【用途三】
有机合成中间体，主要用于合成氰乙酸酯类，也用于生产α氰基丙烯酸甲酯和正丁酯（医用粘合剂）、维生素B6、咖啡因、巴比妥等。

氰基乙酸制备

以氯乙酸、碳酸钠、氰化钠为原料，经中和、氰化、盐酸酸化而得。将碳酸钠悬浮液加入氯乙酸中，在45℃以下经循环中和至pH=7.5-8，中和完毕得氯乙酸钠液。将中和液加入氰化钠溶液中在105-115℃温度下，进行氰化，保温2-3分钟得氰乙酸钠，然后降温至50℃以下，将氰乙酸钠投入脱水锅中用盐酸进行酸化，最后减压脱水，即得氰乙酸成品。原料消耗定额：氯乙酸（95%）1240kg/t、氰化钠（96%）710kg/t。
