先以二甲基戊烯酸甲酯为原料，与三氯三氟乙烷、过氧苯甲酸在催化剂存在下反应，反应产物与特丁醇钠在四氢呋喃溶剂中环合，再经皂化等处理得到1,2-二氯-3,3,3,3-三氟丙烯基-2,'2'-二甲基环丙羧酸。另在液碱、甲醇存在下，由间苯氧基苯甲醛与甲醛反应，得到间苯氧基苯甲醇，再与氰化钠溶液在酸性条件下反应制得α-氰基-间苯氧基苯甲醇。最后以氯化亚砜为氯化剂，使环丙羧酸形成环丙酰氯，然后在吡啶存在下，与α-氰基-间苯氧基苯甲醇制成氯氟氰菊酯。
