8-巯基辛酸 (MOA) 在纳米粒子表面形成自组装单层 (SAM)。MOA 由巯基和羧基组成，有助于不同纳米颗粒的表面处理。MOA 是一种用于石英晶体微天平 (QCMB) 测量的金电极表面修饰 SAM。可作为单层细胞，促进细胞摄取过量铁的金电极上铁蛋白的吸收。也可用于近红外辐射下巨噬细胞光热疗法一氧化氮纳米金 (NO-AuNPs) 的制备。
