是工程塑料聚砜的原料,用于制三氯联苯、五氯联苯,用作热载体、防腐剂等

【用途三】
联苯是杀鼠剂鼠得克和溴鼠灵的中间体,并为性能较好的有机载体。
【用途四】
防霉剂。
用于葡萄柚、橙、柠檬等柑橘类新鲜水果表皮的防霉。
一般用浸渍过本品的纸片放人容器的上下部,在贮藏及输送过程中联苯升华,吸附于果皮,起防霉作用。
【用途五】
联苯具有高的热稳定性及低蒸气压,长期以来常单独或与二苯醚等混合后作为载热体使用。由联苯、三联苯等组成的山都蜡(其中含联苯13%、三联苯61%)能有效地吸收放射线,可用作核电站的载热体。而三联苯([91-94-4])正好又是苯热解制联苯时的副产物,按反应条件不同,反应产物中联苯和三联苯的比例在一定范围内变化,一般情况下,联苯:三联苯=7-8:1。联苯还用作染色载体,它的衍生物乙基联苯、二乙基联苯、三乙基联苯可作为高级溶剂,用于压敏复写纸的染料溶剂。而联苯衍生的对苯基苯酚,也主要用于制造树脂,在压敏复写纸生产中作为显色剂、成色剂的微胶囊材料,也可用于制造特种涂料。联苯可用作柑橘包装纸的浸渍剂,也是柑橘属植物的某些病害的处理剂。氯化联苯是氯化橡胶及乙烯基聚合物的增塑剂。

联苯制备
1.在高温煤焦油中,约含3.0%联苯,可从洗油馏分中回收。1926年,美国陶氏化学公司等开始用苯通过热解法生产联苯。联苯的另一来源是甲苯热脱烷基制苯时的副产物。随着该工艺的发展,这一过程的副产联苯逐渐成为联苯的主要来源。在实验室里,将苯胺重氮化,所得重氮盐加入苯中,再把这种混合物慢慢加入氢氧化钠溶液中,搅拌反应,温度从5℃以下慢慢升至30-35℃,反应8h后即生成联苯。
2.用亚硝酸钠与苯胺进行重氮化,生成氯化重氮苯,用碱中和后,再与苯缩合即得联苯,然后蒸馏精制:
