由生长于热带和亚热带地区的禾根科草本香茅(Cymbopogon citratus;习称西印度柠檬草)或蜿蜒香茅(Cflexuosus;习称东印度柠檬草)的新鲜或微干全株,经切段并水蒸气蒸馏而得。得率0.2%~0.8%。东印度型主要产于印度,产量小;西印度型在海地、洪都拉斯、波多黎各、巴西等均产。我国广东、福建、广西、云南、四川、浙江、台湾等地亦产。
