Biological Activity

[Description]:

Tegaserod is a serotonin receptor 4 agonist (HTR4) used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Anti-tumor activity[1].

[In Vitro]

Tegaserod (1.5 and 3 μM) induces apoptosis in the B16F10 murine melanoma cell line as well as several human melanoma cell lines[1]. Cell Viability Assay[1] Cell Line: B16F10 cells Concentration: 78 nM-10 μM Incubation Time: 72 hours Result: Had anti-cancer activity with IC50 values in the low micromolar range as assessed by MTT assay following 72 h of exposure.

[In Vivo]

Tegaserod (5 mg/kg) delays tumor growth, reduces metastases, increases survival and suppresses p-S6 in vivo[1]. Animal Model: C57BL/6 J mice were subcutaneously injected with B16F10 cells[1] Dosage: 5 mg/kg Administration: Administered intraperitoneally (i.p.) daily for five consecutive days Result: Treatment significantly decreased tumor growth and resulted in only slight decreases in weight following treatment.
