Biological Activity

[Description]:

Isomalt (Palatinitol), a well-tolerated, non-toxic polyol and a protein-stabilizing excipient, stabilizes lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) moderately during freeze-drying, and performs better during storage. Isomalt is traditionally used as a sweetening agent in the food industry and as a tabletting excipient for pharmaceutical purposes[1].

[Related Catalog]:

Signaling Pathways >> Metabolic Enzyme/Protease >> Lactate Dehydrogenase
Research Areas >> Metabolic Disease

[In Vivo]

The chronic toxicity of orally administered isomalt as a part of diet has been studied in animals and it was found to be a safe substance. It did not affect the mortality rate of the animals, and there was no evidence of carcinogenicity, or adverse effects on fertility, reproductive performance or development[1].

Assessment of isomalt for colon-specific delivery and its comparison with lactulose.

AAPS PharmSciTech 14(1) , 53-9, (2013)

Lactulose is used as a triggering substance in a unique colon-specific delivery technology called CODESTM. Colonic microflora degrades lactulose and forms short-chain fatty acids to activate the CODES...

Effect of isomalt consumption on faecal microflora and colonic metabolism in healthy volunteers.

Br. J. Nutr. 95(1) , 40-50, (2006)

Due to its low digestibility in the small intestine, a major fraction of the polyol isomalt reaches the colon. However, little is known about effects on the intestinal microflora. During two 4-week pe...

Effects of isomalt consumption on gastrointestinal and metabolic parameters in healthy volunteers.

Br. J. Nutr. 94(4) , 575-81, (2005)

The polyol isomalt (Palatinit) is a well established sugar replacer. The impact of regular isomalt consumption on metabolism and parameters of gut function in nineteen healthy volunteers was examined ...
