[Description]:

Streptavidin, a biotin-binding protein, is used as a versatile affinity tag. Streptavidin is used to visualize biotin conjugated molecule in a variety of biological applications, including Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry and ELISA[1].

[In Vitro]

Streptavidin exhibits lower levels of non-specific binding than avidin. The efficacy of streptavidin is derived from its extremely high binding affinity for the vitamin biotin. Streptavidin is wildly used in molecular biology through its unique high affinity for the biotin. The dissociation constant (Kd) of the biotin-streptavidin complex is about ~10-15 M[1].
