本品为一种有机合成原料，在农药上作为吡虫啉、啶虫脒的中间体，用于合成下一步中间体N-硝基亚氨基咪唑烷，此外，它经还原可以制氨基胍，用于合成心绞痛药物乐可安等，也可用于炸药和无烟水药的配制。

硝基胍制备

1.其制备方法是硝酸胍在浓硫酸存在下脱水生成硝基胍。
将280g硝酸胍在搅拌下缓慢加入预先已冷却的250mL浓硫酸(相对密度为1.84)中，在加入过程中严格控制反应温度在20℃以下，全部加完后间断搅拌，直至均匀无晶体为止。随后倒入碎冰和水的混合物中，充分搅拌并过滤，水洗至中性，再经重结晶，即得到硝基胍。
