在三氯化铝存在下，用乙酰氯对环己烯进行Friedd-Crafts酰化反应，生成橙中间体和氯化苯反应，得4-(4-氯苯基)环己基甲基酮(I)。用在氢氧化钠水潮夜中的溴对其进行氧化，得到4-(4-氯苯基)环己烷-1-羧酸(Ⅱ)。在硝酸锻存在下，和2-氯-1，4-萘醌反应，生成的产物在甲醇中，和氢氧化钠水溶液回流水解，得阿托伐醌。
