1.薄荷醇可有天然薄荷原油提纯也可用合成法制的。唇形科植物薄荷的地上部分（茎枝叶和花序）经水蒸气蒸馏所得的精油称为薄荷原油，得油率为0.5-0.6.合成薄荷脑的方法很多种。

2. 烟草：FC，18；OR，41。合成：由薄荷油中经冷却、结晶、分离所得的是左旋薄荷脑。半合成法制取（+）-薄荷脑，系采用蒸馏香茅油获得的香茅醛，或是自桉树油中获得的胡椒酮为原料的。
